1880, the visionary social club that has redefined connection and conversation in Singapore, unveils its newest outpost in Hong Kong today. In partnership with Swire Properties, 1880 Hong Kong brings the brand’s signature blend of exceptional hospitality and connection-driven programming to four floors of Two Taikoo Place. The new venue is where ideas come to play, beckoning agitators, creators, explorers and adventurers to come together in the pursuit of positive change.
The highly anticipated expansion, which comprises the 1880 Hong Kong members club and the brand-new 1880 SOCIAL concept that is fully accessible to the public, not only heralds a new era in workspace entertainment but also creates a dynamic new platform for meaningful dialogue, professional fulfilment, and personal growth. Design and Ambience: A Blend of History and Innovation
The interiors of 1880 Hong Kong and 1880 SOCIAL, crafted by MSDO and AvroKO’s Bangkok studio, draw inspiration from the intricate machinery of the Taikoo sugar refinery, creating a distinctive blend of historical tribute and modern sophistication. The richly layered design concept celebrates the journey from raw material to refined product, transitioning as one moves up the floors. It progresses from smooth, fluted forms and green accents reminiscent of sugarcane fields on the lower floors to crystalline shapes that echo the sugar refinement process. The fourth floor, designed by AvroKO, integrates organic forms inspired by molasses, which was chosen to symbolise the togetherness of 1880.
Further enhancing the ambience of the space, 1880 chose British luxury wellness brand Bamford as the official amenity partner. The brand shares 1880’s mission to inspire connection through its commitment to conscious living and its natural personal care products.
First and Second Floor: Eclectic Culinary Destinations
Incorporating geometric figures drawn from the nearby Monster Building and colourful elements paying homage to Hong Kong’s iconic sugar man stalls, the first two floors of 1880 SOCIAL offer an inviting atmosphere for Taikoo Place tenants and the wider community to connect over coffee, drinks or a delicious meal. The culinary offerings are diverse, starting with The Double on the first floor, a day-to-night coffee and wine bar serving a range of delectable pastries and café-style dishes in a cosy, casual setting.
The second floor also houses an array of exciting options, each with its own distinct identity. Hoi Polloi is an explosive blend of Southeast Asian cuisine and culture, with efficient and attentive service, featuring contemporary Asian-inspired delights in a relaxed family-style setting. Fine-dining venueTé Booffers modern European cuisine with an Asian flair, serving elegantly presented dishes that are a dynamic dialogue between tastes and aromas. Guests can indulge in a sophisticated set lunch or a tasting menu incorporating beef cheek ravioli, wagyu, and langoustine. For all those who love to play or watch sports, The Sports Bardishes up an array of American diner-style favourites such as Buffalo chicken wings, baby back ribs and a classic beef burger in a lively space complete with large TV screens and a pool table.
Third Floor: State-of-the-Art Social Spaces
In keeping with its mission to redefine the way we work, 1880 SOCIAL offers a comprehensive range of fully serviced amenities accessible to the public. These include state-of-the-art meeting and event spaces, from a high-spec boardroom to a large-scale conference venue, alongside an upscale social lounge and creative facilities such as podcast studios and a green screen room. This innovative concept caters not only to professionals in Taikoo Place’s bustling business district, but also welcomes the wider community. Fourth Floor: Creative Experiences at the 1880 Hong Kong Members Club
Occupying the fourth and uppermost floor, the 1880 Hong Kong members club is designed to elevate members beyond the ordinary from the moment they step through the doors. In line with the theme throughout the rest of the space, the design features a caramel-inspired canopy and sugar bubble chandeliers. AvroKO also chose wild patterns for the wallpaper to tell the story of an urban jungle and reflect the idea of dynamic social interactions.
The Hong Kong outpost of 1880’s signature restaurant Leonie’s – lauded as one of the top dining destinations in Singapore – is an exceptional, neighbourhood-style eatery under the direction of Chef Colin Buchan. It embodies the essence of a Milanese villa bistro with a bold coffered ceiling and an open kitchen with a marble bar counter. Buchan has crafted a menu of intriguingly new yet delightfully comforting dishes inspired by local flavours and a diverse array of international cuisines, from squid ink tagliatelle with XO sauce and chicken schnitzel with yuzu mayo to an apple tarte tatin featuring white miso.
The club also houses a member's lounge and two private dining rooms, which can be used for events, meetings and socialising. There is also a biohacking-focused Spa, which is at the forefront of the wellness industry and an exceptionally equipped QUARRY Gym led by professional athlete Max Woodward, which will open before the end of the year. The spa and gym will be accessible to the public community for a fee (preferential rates and priority booking available for 1880 Hong Kong members).
